Two Friends And a Bear/A Friend in Need is a Friend Indeed
Once upon a time, there were two friends. They lived in a certain village. As they were bosom friend, they promised that they would help each other at the time of danger. One day, they were passing through a deep forest. Suddenly they saw a bear coming towards them. Both of them were afraid but one of them instantly climbed up a tree leaving his friend alone. The other friend did not know how to climb up a tree. He was in a fix how to save his life. Suddenly he remembered that a bear does not touch a dead body. He instantly lay down on the ground and stopped breathing as if he were dead. Coming to him, the bear smelt all over his body and thought him to be dead. Then it went away slowly. The first friend on the tree saw everything. He got down, came to his friend and asked him, “What did the bear whisper to your ear?” In reply, the other friend said, “It advised me not to keep a friend who leaves his friend in danger.”
I could feel my moral compass as a soldier, in danger of – I could feel the squeeze, the pressure of frustration and anger and fear combining on me… I felt the danger; I felt the squeeze of it.
